We're headed there in a week, can an F150 off road, with hawk make the whole trail?
Did you have problems with permits? Planning 2 nights?

You should already have your permits. This is prime time and they are typically reserved months in advance. You can apply via the NPS website. Occasionally, there are cancellations; check at the Island in the Sky visitor center.

is your F-150 4WD? I would not attempt it without 4x4 LOW gearing. Cayuse carried a Hawk on the back of his 4x4 Tundra without problems.

You reserve permits at https://canypermits.nps.gov/index.cfm a quick glance and  almost every site is booked solid for the next three weeks.  Airport A is open on the 25th and there are a few sites open on June 1st.

And just for the record, I carry a Grandby, not a Hawk, that extra space is nice  :D

Bill’s blog post does a really excellent job of capturing and presenting this amazing  trip. My brother and I will be forever grateful to Bill and Bob for letting us tag along with them. Meeting and getting to know them made a great trip even better.

As mentioned in Bill’s blog I was relegated to crutches due to a slow healing surgery on my foot. In my role as a passenger, I tried to video some of the more ‘interesting’ sections of the road. It is a bit rough and needs more editing but if anyone is interested, some video of the trip can be found here:

Safe travels!

Cayuse, great right up and pics. We really wanted to go this Sept., something came up, so we can't go this year. Maybe next fall with a little luck. I enjoyed your trip.  Mitch

Woot!  Just made reservations for November!!  I'll spend the next four months thinking about this trip and doing research.  Thanks again for the post and inspiration.

This has got to be one of the best TR's I've ever had the pleasure of reading!
The WRT is definitely on our bucket list.

Not my write-up.  That was Bosque Bill that wrote up the trip. I enjoy planning the trip and am happy to answer questions about areas but when it comes to writing trip reports and summarizing adventures i fail miserably so don't even try anymore.
